Majella Giblin was awarded a Government of Ireland IRCHSS (Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences) Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2008 and is working as a researcher at CISC. For her PhD study Majella examined two cases of regional high-technology industrial clusters in a small, open economy to investigate how such regional agglomerations can be sustained, given their global character. The research builds on existing territorialised innovation theories by providing an understanding of how the force of globalisation is converged with the paradox of localisation in industrial activity. Prior to her Ph.D. study Majella completed a Master of Economic Science degree and Bachelor of Commerce degree. In addition, Majella has built a strong research record having worked on a wide range of projects, including the OECD National Innovation Systems Programme and the OECD Sectoral Case Studies in Innovation project.

Research interests: industrial clusters, regional innovation systems, regional competitive advantage, inter-organisational relationships and networks, and the ICT, Software and Medical Technology sectors.
