Margaret Heffernan is currently a lecturer in the Department of Management at NUI Galway. She joined CISC as a recipient of a Ph.D. Studentship in the High Performance Work Systems group at NUI Galway in October 2002, having previously worked at the University of Limerick, co-ordinating the Irish Management Institute/University of Limerick strategic leadership research programme, a study which investigated knowledge management, intellectual capital, social networks and strategic leadership of management teams within indigenous Irish software companies. This research culminated in the publication of 'Managing Knowledge based Organisations'(Blackwell, 2003), which she co-authored. Margaret, a former Irish American Partnership Scholar, completed an M.B.S. by research at the University of Limerick, which comprised an empirical investigation of competency frameworks in Irish organisations. This was preceded by the award of a B.B.S. with a specialism in Personnel Management, also from the University of Limerick. She has also worked on a number of previous research projects including the Knowledge Workers project with the Irish Management Institute. She has published journal articles at European level on management competencies and management of intellectual resources and presented her work on High Performance Work Systems at a number of internationa conferences. Her current research interests include high performance work systems, organisational justice, the transformation of work, and its impact on employees.
