Stephen Kinsella is a first year PhD student in the Department of Economics. His PhD Thesis will investigate aspects of the emergence of online organisations using the tools of complexity theory, computability theory, dynamical systems and cellular automata. Stephen is a researcher with the Digital Enterprise research institute, and the specifics of this project directed by Prof. Velupillai can be found at the link below . Stephen holds a B.A.(mod) in Economics from the University of Dublin, Trinity College, and a Masters Degree in Economics from NUI, Galway. His B.A Thesis examined the effects of Prohibition on alcohol consumption in the USA in the 1920's. His M.Econ.Sc thesis examined aspects of the economics of conventions as applied to rural development programs such as REPS, under the direction of Dr. Aidan Kane. He has worked as a research assistant in the Dept. of Economics on several projects and as an instructor in economics at the Centre for Talented Youth in Ireland at DCU ( http://www.dcu.ie/ctyi) , where he coordinates the economics program.
