Tony Dobbins commenced a Government of Ireland IRCHSS (Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences) Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in November 2008 as a researcher with CISC. He is participating in a cross-border comparative joint research project between NUI Galway and Queens University Belfast on the nature and impact of employee information and consultation arrangements on the island of Ireland; examining, in particular, the impact of EU regulations on company information and consultation practices. For his PhD, Tony conducted two case studies of workplace partnership in Ireland, focusing on the nature of workplace cooperation; the balance of mutual gains accruing to management, workers and trade unions; and the contextual conditions affecting the adoption and durability of workplace cooperation.
Prior to taking up a research fellowship, Tony was a journalist with the weekly publication, Industrial Relations News (IRN), and has extensive experience of reporting on a wide range of industrial relations issues. Further, over the course of a number of years, Tony has gained extensive research experience in the field of industrial relations – for instance as a contributor to the European Industrial Relations Observatory (EIRO).
