The RSAI-BIS Annual Conference seeks to promote the study of regional and urban phenomena and the advancement of regional science. The aim of the annual conference is to enhance our understanding of current economic, social and political issues from a regional perspective. Regional Science is a multi-disciplinary field, with a strong foundation in quantitative methods, encompassing expertise in economics as well as geography, planning, mathematics and sociology. With the development of the interest in spatial issues across a range of fields (economic geography, spatial economics, regional studies, urban economics, spatial econometrics, etc) as well as in policy, regional science is at the centre of the development of theory and methods in urban and regional analysis and policy. The RSAIBIS annual conference in Galway provides a timely opportunity for researchers, policy makers and other participants to come together and reflect on the various strengths, weaknesses, challenges and opportunities of relevant regional issues of the day.
During the Annual Conference, there will be Special Sessions for early career/doctoral students with prizes for the best conference paper and the best conference presentation by early career researchers. Those applying for the best presentation must be at a stage prior to a PhD viva date. Applicants for the best conference paper must be within 3 years of their PhD viva.
