Bob Fagan is professor and chair of Human Geography and deputy director of the Centre for Research on Social Inclusion at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. His research focuses on globalisation and impacts of global economic, social and cultural change on local economic restructuring in Australia. His current projects deal with local responses to the politics of 'border protection' and Australian trade in fresh and processed food industries; industrial changes and labour market impacts in outer suburbs of globalising Australian cities; and local responses to national labour market deregulation. He has been an adviser on urban and regional development to federal, state and local governments in Australia and is a recent past president of the Institute of Australian Geographers.
