NUI Galway wins HSA Third Level ‘Safety in Design’ national competition
Congratulations to Kevin Carney, Grant Deeney and Shane McHale, students from National University of Ireland Galway, who have won a Health and Safety Authority run competition aimed at undergraduate teams from construction related degree programmes in third level institutions. Kevin is a third year student in Project & Construction Management, while both Grant and Shane are third year students in Civil Engineering at NUIG.

Engineering for Communities: Family Day
Students and staff in Civil Engineering collaborated with NUI Galway’s Ryan Institute to host Engineering for Communities family day, which was held in the Galway City Museum on Saturday February 19th as part of National Engineers Week.

National Wood Awards 2010
NUI Galway Civil Engineering students, Damien Kearns and Joseph Lucid, were awarded 1st place in the "Engineering/Wood Science" category at the 3rd Level Student Wood Awards in Enfield on June 11th 2010.

Ryan Hanley Award 2010
The 2010 Ryan Hanley Award for the best final year project across all degree disciplines in the College of Engineering and Informatics at NUI Galway was awarded to Civil Engineering students, Damien Kearns and Joseph Lucid. This is the premier competition for final year projects undertaken by undergraduate engineering students at NUI Galway.

Anthony McTigue has been awarded a Society of Wood Science and Technology (SWST) Student Travel Grant to attend the 53rd International Convention of the Society of Wood Science and Technology in Geneva, Switzerland on October 10th -15th 2010.

Frank Lydon Award 2009
Arup Consulting Engineers sponsor the Frank Lydon Award for the best final year
project in Civil Engineering at NUI Galway. This annual award is in honour of
Frank Lydon, the former chairman of the company, who was a graduate of Civil
Engineering. The winning students for 2009 were Teresa Keane and Alan Kelly for
their project entitled "A study on Embodied Energy in Reinforced Concrete".
