Irish Medical Council: The Council regulates the medical profession in Ireland. Their page includes access to their Guide to Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Medical Practitioners (2007) and a detailed explanation on the practicalities of making a complaint against a doctor.
Department of Health and Children: The pages of the DOHC include many relevant government documents and reports on ethically relevant issues in Irish health care, including e.g. the
Report of the Commission on Assisted Human Reproduction (2005) or the recent
Lourdes Hospital Inquiry (2006).
General Medical Council (GMC): Their websites includes a document on Guidance on Good Medical Practice (2001) and comprehensive documents on a broad range of core issues in medical ethics in their valuable " Guidance Library".
British Medical Association (BMA): Their website includes dedicated
Ethics pages that offer comprehensive resources on important issues in medical issues.
American Medical Association: Their Medical Ethics pages include a variety of resources, including a short list of 9 Principles of Medical Ethics, a multi-page version of the Code of Medical Ethics and a search function for the extensive collection of current opinions on the Ethics Code.
American Psychiatric Association: The Ethics pages of the APA detail their approach to the AMA code in " Principles of Medical Ethics with Annotations Especially Applicable to Psychiatry" (2010) and in the extensive " Opinions of the Ethics Committee on The Principles of Medical Ethics with Annotations Especially Applicable to Psychiatry" (2009). Their Ethics Primer is meant as an introduction to psychiatric ethics for beginning practitioners and provides general guidance with regard to a number of important ethical issues.
An Bord Altranais (Irish Nursing Board): The website gives access to their
Nurses Rules (2010) and many resources for nurses and midwives.
Nursing and Midwifery Council: Their website includes
The NMC Code of Professional Conduct: Standards for Conduct, Performance and Ethics (2008). It also includes details about how to make
complaints about unprofessional or incompetent conduct of a registered nurse of midwife.
American Nurses Association: At the ANA Center for Ethics and Human Rights, the Code of Ethics for Nurses can be viewed online (it is protected and needs to be purchased if hardcopy is required). A particularly valuable resource is the page with position statements of the ANA on a variety of important nursing ethics issues, usually including relevant references to the ethical literature.
Canadian Nurses Association: Their website includes their
Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses (2008). A particularly valuable nursing ethics resource are the pages on "
Ethics in Practice" with a variety of papers on nursing ethics issues (with references to the literature) and the page with CNA
position statements on ethical issues.
International Council of Nurses: This international nursing organisation addresses issues that affect nurses all over the world. Their page gives access (in many different languages) to the ICN Code of Ethics for Nurses (2006). One specific ethical issue that they address is nurse migration. The ICN has issued a Position Statement on Ethical Nurse Recruitment (2001) and has links to the International Center on Nurse Migration that conducts research on nurse migration. One of their pages contains an extremely valuable list of links to relevant reports and publications.
Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council: Their website gives access to the national Code of Ethics for Nurses in Australia (2008) and the Code of Professional Conduct (2008).
The Psychological Society of Ireland: Their website includes their comprehensive
Code of Professional Ethics (1999).
British Psychological Society: Their
ethics pages include links to different resources, including their
Ethics Code (2006),
ethics and the media, and a
question and answer section.
American Psychological Association: The APA offers different resources, with primary focus on their Ethics Code (2002). The page also has a link to comprehensive APA Guidelines for Ethical Conduct in the Care and Use of Animals.
American Psychiatric Association: Their ethics page contains an ethics primer, with a full list of chapters available in pdf format. The Principles of Medical Ethics with Annotations Especially Applicable to Psychiatry (2009) is available here. You can also read the opinions of the Ethics Committee of the American Psychiatric Association in relation to this document here.
Ken Pope's website on ethical and professional issues in psychology and psychotherapy is a tremendously useful resource. It includes, among many other great features, many full-text articles on the subject and a comprehensive collection of links to ethics codes in psychology and cognate disciplines.
Engineers Ireland (formerly known as Institution of Engineers of Ireland): Their Code of Ethics (2009) covers ethical issues arising in professional relationships and responsibilities towards the profession, the environment, and the community. Their regularly updated facebook page can be found here.
National Society of Professional Engineers: The NSPE has a variety of resources on their
ethics page, including their
Ethics
Code (2006), an
Ethics Code Test and a short idealistic
Engineers' Creed (1954).
A very helpful additional resource is the Online Ethics Center for Engineering and Science which includes helpful case studies and other resources on a variety issues in engineering practice and research.
Another extremely informative site on with ethics papers and numerous case studies is the engineering ethics site at Texas A&M University.
"Engineering Ethics: Division of Technology, Culture and Communication", School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia, offers a collection of case studies (only abstracts publicly available) and links to other engineering ethics sites.
Science and Engineering Ethics is a journal that is dedicated to ethical issues in engineering. It requires subscription.
