Leadership and Professional Development in Education Overview

This research cluster is concerned with a range of issues in education pertaining to leadership and professional development.

The School of Education has a long tradition in leadership development for schools, having run a national initiative on school development planning from 2001 to 2011.  Recent review work (Mac Ruairc and Sugrue, 2017) has identified gaps in this increasingly important field in Irish education.

Cluster members are currently engaged in a range of projects including An Evaluation of the MISNEACH Leadership Project and the School-University Partnership Initiative and Research Project (SUPR).  Recent projects have also included an Evaluation of the European Policy Network for School leadership (EPNoSl 2009–2014).  Research in this cluster has significance for practitioners and policy-makers at a national level.
