Postgraduate Courses

The Discipline of English offers four taught postgraduate MA programmes, and co-teaches on a number of others.  Information on our MA programmes  can be found by clicking on the images below.

For all Arts Taught Programmes the following supporting documentation must be submitted:

  • Official qualifications and exam results (transcripts) to date: required for all non-NUIG applicants and for NUIG graduates who did not receive their undergraduate degrees from NUI Galway. Applicants who have still to graduate must upload final transcripts on receipt. 
  • English language competency: if necessary, evidence of  English language competency.
  • Personal statement: all applicants must enclose a typed personal statement of approximately 600 words explaining why you wish to undertake the programme(s) of your choice, outlining how it fits into your career objectives, unless indicated otherwise in the table below. 
  • Passport or Birth certificate: non NUIG-applicants only—a copy of your passport or birth certificate must also be submitted.
  • IMPORTANT: Some programmes require additional documentation (eg MA in Writing).  Please click here for the list of programmes that require additional supporting documents.

MA Scholarships: 
EU students who achieve a 1.1 in their undergraduate degree will be eligible for a scholarship worth €1500 under the Taught Masters Scholarship Scheme for First-Class Students.  The scholarship is open to full-time students who register for any of our MAs.  Details on how to apply will be posted to the Scholarship Scheme webpage shortly.

International Scholarships:
