CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
A degree in History is clearly a good preparation for a career as a teacher, archivist, librarian, historical consultant, or genealogist. But most History graduates go on to careers where it will be the skills they have learned, rather than the specific knowledge that will be of use to them. Recent History graduates are working in journalism (newspapers, radio, and television), applied communications, human resource management, the diplomatic service, financial services, computer hardware and software companies, the Garda Síochána, and in administration. Some have pursued careers in law and a small number in business. Even for those who are not going to pursue careers directly related to history, the opportunities for more in-depth study offered by a Masters degree can be a rewarding experience - and it is one which is often well-regarded by employers.
