The College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences provides healthcare students with an exemplary educational and cultural experience. The College is recognised nationally and internationally for excellence and leadership in distinctive and innovative programmes of teaching, research and scholarship which reflect the strengths of the College, National priorities, University Priorities and the needs of the North-Western region. It has developed and will sustain strategic partnerships in Healthcare Delivery, Education and Research and encourages staff and students to engage with partner organisations and educational institutes.
The College is comprised of three schools, the School of Health Sciences, the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the School of Medicine. The College offers a number of unique and patient focused courses in Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Podiatry (the only course of its kind currently on offer in Ireland).
College members are highly qualified and the university has an extensive and well-funded programme of medical research. Our Medical school is currently expanding the undergraduate intake, and implementing an exciting new curriculum. The first class of “direct –entry” Midwifery students graduated in 2010. We will have our first Podiatry graduates in 2012
The University is committed to providing the most up-to-date facilities and resources for the study of medicine, nursing and health sciences. An energetic building programme is underway, with new buildings coming on stream to accommodate new programmes and expanding enrolments. We plan to commence major capital developments in Human Biology;Basic, Clinical and Translational Research in Galway; and Clinical Teaching facilities in Sligo and Donegal in 2011.
