Certificate in Community Development Practice

Certificate in Community Development Practice 15 ECTS
The Certificate in Community Development Practice is a part-time programme, designed to enable community activists gain a thorough understanding of community development combined with the practical skills necessary to work effectively in development work. Students completing the Certificate programme study three modules.
Intended for
The Community Development Practice programmes are suitable for participants who are actively involved in community development work and who wish to obtain formal skills in this area.
Programme content
Students following the Certificate programme must take
Community Development Theory and Practice,
Social Analysis
and
Communication, Leadership and Group Work Skills.
Project Planning, Development and Evaluation.
Entry requirements
Candidates must have experience of working in a community or voluntary organisation. There are no special educational requirements for entry to either programme. Selection of students is made on the basis of informal interviews following completion of an application form. Numbers accepted on these programmes are limited.

Assessment
Participants’ work is examined by means of continuous assessment. An assignment must be completed for each module.
Duration/attendance requirements
The Certificate programme involves a minimum of 85 hours of instruction and assignments.
Class sessions are normally held on one evening/morning each week throughout the academic year as well as special weekend seminars and workshops, which are arranged in consultation with the class members.
Award
The following award is presented:
NUI Certificate in Community Development Practice, to participants who successfully complete the Certificate programme.
Annual fee
The fee for the Certificate programme is currently €150. This fee is subject to a yearly review.
