Course Module Information

Course Modules

Semester 1 and Semester 2 | Credits: 5

The module aims to give students a comprehensive understanding of fundamental as well as sophisticated research technologies relevant to cell biology. The research technologies described in this module are used by academic and industry research laboratories to analyse cell behaviour at the molecular and cellular level in response to endogenous and exogenous stimuli. The module will provide in-depth information on the current technologies to detect and analyse biomolecules, the activity and regulation of signal transduction pathways, cell behaviour including morphology, cell proliferation, death and differentiation. The module addresses cell functional technologies such as migration, growth, secretion, etc., cell population technologies (FACS, sorting, cell isolation) and in situ technologies such as immuno-labelling and microscopy. The module also addresses the technologies involved in high throughput screening and its role in drug discovery.
