Course Module Information

Course Modules

Semester 1 and Semester 2 | Credits: 5

This module will provide students with an in-depth and advanced understanding of cutting-edge topics in cellular and molecular biology in line with the current state of the art. The focus will be on topics relevant to cell stress response pathways, autophagy, cell death, cell survival pathways, and how these relate to development of diseases such as tumour formation and progression, and degenerative diseases.
(Language of instruction: English)

Learning Outcomes
  1. Describe cellular and molecular biology of mammalian cells in the context of major research questions
  2. Discuss in depth the signal transduction pathways and molecular processes that drive cell survival and death, and cell growth
  3. Explain how aberrations in molecular signalling pathways influence development of diseases such as tumours or degenerative diseases
  4. Source and analyse information from the literature and relay the gained knowledge to their peers through a seminar presentation/literature review
  5. Write concise informative summaries the most current knowledge from seminars presented by external speakers
Assessments
  • Continuous Assessment (100%)
