DT3110: Theatre Internship 2
Semester 2 | Credits: 30
Internships, in a research-led structured learning environment, constitute 30 ECTs. Internship proposals must be submitted for approval one semester in advance. Students propose a list of theatre companies or makers they would like to work with to the O'Donoghue Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance for approval. The Centre approaches the host company with the request. A schedule and set of duties is agreed upon by the Centre and the nominated host company. The student is supervised by a member of staff from the Centre, who works with the student to identify a research question related to the internship. Internships may take place in Ireland, or internationally. Internships are intended to test the student’s engagement with the processes of independent learning, and the role of independent learning should be recognised as a key outcome for the student. This type of independent work ethic is required in the professional industries, including further research, and the BA observes this characteristic as central to a successful graduate.
Learning Outcomes
- • Display further learning of specific skills and knowledge acquired through completion of the internship. • Demonstrate successful engagement with the processes of independent learning, evidenced through their work ethic during the project, and their working relationship with their supervisor. • Completed the internship according to the agreed scheduled and set of duties. • Submit a research essay of 3, 000 – 3,500 words by the specified date. • Demonstrate an understanding of ‘professionalism’ in relation to traits such as time-management, reliability, interpersonal skills, and the completion of assigned tasks and duties.
