DT4101: Contemporary Irish Theatre
Semester 1 | Credits: 5
This course introduces students to the major writers, theatre-makers and companies in Ireland from 1980 to the present. It aims to provide students with a detailed awareness and understanding of the Irish theatre sector in its local, national and international contexts, and to sensitise students to the historical, economic and socio-political contexts that determine how theatre is made in Ireland. The course involves discussion of major contemporary plays, and features a substantial practical element that will involve the staging of key Irish performances. Students are not obliged to perform as part of this project, but could instead take up roles backstage (stage management, writing, design).
(Language of instruction: English)
