Learning Outcomes
- Characterise the properties of various line coding schemes and propose a suitable line-coding scheme for a particular application.
- Design and appraise a source coding scheme for a given information source.
- Assess the capabilities of various channel coding and interleaving schemes and design a Hamming/CRC/Convolutional channel coding scheme to meet performance criteria.
- Compare and contrast various data link layer protocols based on complexity and efficiency.
- Characterise the operation and behaviour of various forms of data networks and recommend a suitable type of network based on a set of requirements.
- Outline and asses the structure and operation of the Internet and the functionality of the Internet Protocol
- Compare the functionality of transport layer protocols (e.g. TCP and UDP) and recommend a suitable protocol to meet application requirements.
