Course Modules
EN6140: Publishing History
Semester 1 | Credits: 5
This module will introduce students to the field of publishing history. In the module, members of staff in English will deliver seminars on an aspect of publishing history related to their field of research. Students will be exposed to different examples of key features of publishing from across the span of several centuries, for example: author-publisher relations; publishing economics; printing and reprinting practices; book design; marketing and sales; readership and reception; book censorship and control. During the course of the module, students will develop their understanding of contemporary and historical publishing by drawing connections between these case studies and identifying different approaches to studying publishing history.

Learning Outcomes
- Enhance their understanding of contemporary publishing by reference to relevant historical examples.
- Describe and analyse a range of key case studies from within the field of publishing history.
- Identify and describe key features of publishing and their manifestation in a range of publishing histories.
- Utilise a range of key tools, methods, and resources for the completion of publishing history research.
