Course Module Information
Course Modules
GS502: Journal Club Programme
Semester 1 and Semester 2 | Credits: 5
The student should only register for this module in the academic year that they intend to complete the module. Journal Clubs are arranged by researchers around a common research theme. All members of the club are expected to select research articles of interest and to present them to the club members. This module aims to give students the opportunity to further their knowledge of a research theme in a participatory journal club setting. Students are expected to attend and actively participate in all meetings of the journal club and to be actively involved in its organisation. Research articles to be presented should be read carefully in advance of the meeting. Active participation at the journal club meetings must include posing questions, critically evaluating the research presented and participating in discussions. When students are presenting they must read and critically analyse the research article in detail and present it to the club members. Students must maintain a record of their participation in the journal club, to include meetings attended and details on journal articles presented by the student and other club members. It is recommended to also include abstracts on each of the articles presented, succinctly describing the research presented and the ensuing discussion. A reflective journal should be maintained by the student to record the student’s learning experience on this module. Specifically the relevance of the research presented to the student’s research project should be included in this journal.
(Language of instruction: English)
