Course Module Information

Course Modules

Semester 1 and Semester 2 | Credits: 5

The student should only register for this module in the academic year that they intend to complete the module. Students may have an opportunity to visit an academic or research group outside NUI Galway to gain more extensive research experience. Examples of such research experience include but are not limited to training in an advanced technique, extended access to specialised equipment/resources or for appropriate field work. Such opportunities are limited and are only possible when arranged by the student’s supervisor and agreed with the host organisation and supervisor. It is recommended that a supervisor in the external host organisation is involved in planning the specific research learning outcomes for the student along with the student’s NUI Galway supervisor. These research-specific learning outcomes must be appropriate to the period of the research placement. The research experience must be described in a written report and in an oral presentation in the host organisation and/or a NUI Galway audience on their return (within two months). The minimum placement period is one month.
