Through a combination of reading, discussion and appropriate assignments, postgraduate students are introduced to core scholarly literature of historiographical and methodological importance to twentieth-century Ireland. The are also given guidance in how to access and interpret fundamental primary sources. Particular themes to be explored are determined by the module convenor in light of students' individual research topics. Students might be asked to read several articles or a monograph in some weeks, write c. 5,000 words over the semester, and make formal oral presentations (in addition to regular discussion of assigned texts). This module is offered subject to staff availability and requisite student interest.
