The objective of this course is to provide you with an overview of the main legal principles relating to health care in Ireland including comparative perspectives, to enable you to study the policies that underpin health care practice and to enable you to understand how these laws and policies interrelate and apply in practice.

  1. Identify core legal principles in health law and human rights law
  2. Understand the dynamics of health policy
  3. Relate a specific topic to the overall module and to other areas of law
  4. Apply the various legal principles that arise in extra-ordinary situations to everyday situations
  5. Compare Irish health law and policy with other jurisdictions
  6. Identify areas in need of reform
  7. Use the range of sources referred to in lectures
