This course offers an introduction to Old Irish grammar and syntax in standardised language. Students can expect to acquire a basic competence in reading simple texts in standardised Old Irish. The core text is David Stifter, Sengoídelc. Old Irish for Beginners (Syracuse University Press, 2006), and recommended supplementary materials including E.G. Quin, Old Irish Workbook (Dublin, Royal Irish Academy, 1975) and John Strachan and Osborn Bergin, Old Irish Paradigms and Selections from the Old-Irish Glosses (Dublin: royal Irish Academy, 2003 (reprint of 1949)).
