MV513: Advanced Medieval Latin
Semester 2 | Credits: 10
This module is for students who have already studied Latin for at least two years and are confident in independent reading. Every year a text is chosen in light of the make-up of the group, and classes proceed through a mixture of independent reading, in-seminar translation and study, and investigation of the medieval reception, commentary traditions, and manuscript survival of the chosen text.

Learning Outcomes
- will have gained a thorough grounding in the philological exegesis of Late Antique and medieval Latin
- will have gained a thorough grounding in the literary exegesis of Late Antique and medieval Latin
- will be familiar with the reception of Latin texts in the medieval schools
- will be familiar with the scholarly study of Latin texts in the medieval schools
- will have practised the literal and stylistically developed translation of a series of sample texts chosen as take-home assignments
