MV6111: Palaeography
Semester 1 and Semester 2 | Credits: 10
This module introduces students to the scripts and manuscripts written from the first to the fifteenth centuries. Students will self-direct their own study through engagement with curated online materials, and also attend a team-taught workshop series on the topic of book history or on individual manuscripts.

Learning Outcomes
- describe how manuscripts were produced in antiquity and the 'middle ages' (to c. 1500)
- recognise key stages in the development of Latin scripts
- transcribe examples of important Latin & some vernacular scripts
- demonstrate competency in using digitial repositories of manuscripts
- select and analyse appropriate scholarly resources in the study of particular manuscripts or hands
