Course Modules
MV6112: Medieval Latin for Beginners
Semester 1 and Semester 2 | Credits: 10
This module introduces students to Latin as used in ancient Rome and the European middle ages. Students will gradually become acquainted with its grammar and vocabulary, and develop reading skills with the aim of acquiring enough knowledge to be able to access basic Latin texts in their original form. The process of learning Latin will help to sharpen the students' understanding of the grammar of most modern languages, including English. No previous knowledge of Latin is expected.

- Demonstrate knowledge of the foundations of Latin grammar and vocabulary.
- Read and translate simple Latin texts in their original form.
- Identify correctly the Latin origin of many English words.
- Understand and use a wide range of grammatical terminology.
