This module introduces students of Medieval Studies to key disciplines devoted to source criticism, with special reference to 'auxiliary sciences' such as diplomatic, sigillography, philology, text editing, bibliography. Topics treated vary from year to year.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Access findings in 'auxiliary sciences' and related bodies of knowledge useful for the analysis of 'medieval' sources.
  2. Understand the historical development (historiography) of 'Medieval Studies' as a research area.
  3. Find up-to-date scholarly publications independently on areas of particular interest to him/her.
  4. Incorporate some non-Anglophone scholarship in his/her research.
