This is a Semester 1 practical and continuous assessment module, consisting of laboratory and computing sessions and associated teaching. It is primarily designed for 3rd Year Physics students who study abroad in Semester 2.
(Language of instruction: English)

Learning Outcomes
  1. Analyze physical situations using concepts, laws and techniques learned in the 3rd year Semester 1 core Physics companion modules.
  2. Identify and apply pertinent physics concepts, and appropriate mathematical techniques, to solve physics problems related to the content of the 3rd year Semester 1 core Physics companion modules.
  3. Work singly and in group collaborations to observe and measure physical phenomena accurately, using appropriate instrumentation.
  4. Record data, and the manner in which they are obtained, using a working laboratory notebook.
  5. Interpret measurements in terms of their physical significance and the experimental or computational context in which they are obtained.
  6. Use a high-level computer programming language to write programmes that apply numerical techniques to solve physical problems related to the content of this module's syllabus.
  7. Prepare formal scientific reports.
  8. Present and defend scientific data and concepts orally.
Assessments
  • Continuous Assessment (40%)
  • Oral, Audio Visual or Practical Assessment (60%)
