Course Modules
PO2112: Microbiology
Semester 2 | Credits: 5
This module will build upon prior knowledge and understanding gained from previous modules and will give students a general understanding of clinical microbiology and a specific grounding in aspects of clinical microbiology relevant to infection of the foot. The module will ensure that students know about common infections and their implications for podiatric practice.

Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate a general knowledge of a core body of general clinical microbiology for health care workers.
- Understand how principles of clinical microbiology and the clinical laboratory can assist in diagnosis of infection related to podiatry.
- Discuss the surgical and antimicrobial options for the management of a range of lower limb and foot infections.
- Apply the concepts of clinical microbiology to a range of infections and their lower limb manifestations and discuss the impact of this on podiatric practice.
