Semester 2 | Credits: 5

This module will allow the student to consider the role of the podiatrist in the field of orthopaedics. Students will be introduced to the orthopaedic management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal lower limb conditions. The module will contain comprehensive theoretical knowledge to support the assessment and management of acute and chronic orthopaedic related lower limb extremity disorders.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Describe and appreciate factors involved with the mechanism of injury of orthopaedic-related lower limb conditions.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation as part of a management plan related to orthopaedic lower limb injuries.
  3. Apply knowledge of functional anatomy, biomechanical theories and paradigms and demonstrate an ability to integrate this in the context of orthopaedics.
  4. Critically appraise the current literature with regards to the medical and surgical management of common orthopaedic related conditions of the foot & ankle.
