This module provides an introduction to the fundamental theory, methods, and analytic approaches behind psychophysiological methods commonly used across psychology and related sciences (e.g., neuroscience), such as electroencephalography (EEG), galvanic skin response (GSR), blood pressure and heart rate, and assessment of stress hormones and immunity. The course will consist of a combination of lectures, laboratory tours and demonstrations, and in-class work and discussions.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Describe the most current and widely used psychophysiological methods
  2. Understand the theory behind each psychophysiological method
  3. Identify correct applications of each psychophysiological method
  4. Recognise the specific strengths and weaknesses of each individual method (and have developed a good ability to critique same)
  5. Recognize and have some practical experience of relevant laboratory equipment and laboratory settings
  6. At a very basic level, gain experience of what psychophysiological data ‘looks’ like, both in its raw state, and for use in analyses
