SC1100: Accommodation Services/Front Office Operations

Accommodation Services
The aim of the course is to provide the student with the required theoretical knowledge and the operational skills to work in, supervise and evaluate the Accommodation Services Operations.
Front Office Operations
The objective of this course is to introduce students to the Front Office department of the hotel in preparation for Year 2 placement.

Learning Outcomes
- Describe the operations of the Accommodation Services department in the various levels of hospitality establishments.
- Explain and demonstrate procedures and work cycles for servicing a guest room.
- Discuss technique, products and equipment in servicing guest rooms and public areas efficiently.
- Determine the need for and carry out the cleaning and maintenance tasks for facilities, products, fabrics, coverings and surfaces in the guest room.
- Maintain appropriate records related to the servicing of guest rooms.
- Disucss security requirements for guests and employees including 'lost and found' procedures.
- Outline the steps involved in processing linens as they flow through an on-premises laundry operation. Explain the importance of an various aspects of linen control.
- To understand the different elements in the interior design of a guest room or public area and the various design components.
- Describe the Front Office Department and its Organisation.
- Understand the Accommodation Product and Guest Type.
- Recognise the 4 components of the Guest Cycle.
- Understand different situations that can arise at the Front Desk and be familiar with how to deal with them.
- Use a Property Management System and link it to the Guest Cycle.
