SC3209: Spanish
Semester 1 and Semester 2 | Credits: 10
The objective of this course is to consolidate and develop the language skills acquired by students during their first academic year and their placement year in a Spanish speaking country. The aim is to further develop the four language competencies (verbal, lectora, auditiva, escrita) to facilitate communication at a more advanced level. Students will also be introduced to the language of business so that they may communicate effectively in a Spanish-speaking business environment and build upon their professional knowledge gained on placement. The emphasis is consistently on task-based learning to improve both language and professional proficiency.

Learning Outcomes
- Communicate efficiently in a variety of everyday life and professional situations
- Prepare, organise and deliver oral presentations in Spanish on a regular basis with a degree of fluency
- Demonstrate spoken and written accuracy in complex grammatical structures
- Develop an advanced interpretation and comprehension of Spanish texts, particularly those based on tourism and hospitality and business topics
- Improve pronunciation and intonation
- Demonstrate knowledge of a higher level of professional vocabulary
- Produce weekly written language assignments outside of class time and revise learning done in class for weekly in-class assessments
- Display the professional knowledge gained on placement and integrate this knowledge into more advanced language expression
- Perform or role-play professional scenario-based tasks and simulations to improve level of language learning
