Social research forms a major part of the discipline of social science, and is therefore subject to social science’s governing theories and philosophies. This modules ambition is to deepen your understanding of the theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of social research, whilst at the same time supporting you to further develop the practical know-how required to confidently undertake social research.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Demonstrate an appreciation of the fit between social research and the practice of community, youth and family work
  2. Demonstrate a critical understanding of the basic concepts underpinning theories of social research
  3. Critically analyse what is important in social research and an ability to undertake research which is valid, reliable and ethically sound
  4. Display competence in evaluating and choosing specific research methods in an applied context
