Semester 1 | Credits: 10

This module introduces students to a wide range of contemporary critical social theory (broadly conceived). It intends to foster a critical approach towards present-day social and political problems. To this end, it explores contemporary social and political phenomena through the lens of theoretical work, enabling students to develop an advanced understanding of relevant conceptual and analytical tools and, therefore, to critically engage with their social worlds. Its focus on the themes of power, resistance, and critique, is intended to highlight the value of social theory in relation to the idea of social change.
