TE1101: Skills for Professional Development
Semester 1 and Semester 2 | Credits: 10
This module focuses on the development of skills that are seen as central to enhancing your overall professionalism. You will assess your personal skills, learn about effective communication skills, teamwork skills and problem-solving skills.

Learning Outcomes
- Knowledge Breadth Demonstrate a broad and up-to-date general knowledge and a specialised knowledge of the core professional skills required for successful employment
- Knowledge Kind Discuss the core skills that contribute to successful professional development, including self-management, communication, people and task management and creative and innovate problem-solving
- Know-How & Skill Range Discuss the changes currently taking place in organisations, with particular emphasis on the challenges of labour force flexibility and recognising how core skills development enhances employment opportunities
- Know-How & Skill Selectivity Assess one’s own core skills with a view to identifying strengths, areas for improvement and approaches to core skills enhancement
- Competence Context Exercise autonomy and judgement in adapting one’s professional portfolio to a changing work environment and taking responsibility for career management in order to enhance employment prospects into the future
- Competence Role Demonstrate how individuals can adapt to the work demands of the future by evaluating their individual learning needs and investigating why professional development is now considered central to securing employment
- Competence Learning to Learn Recognise how people can adapt to a changing work environment, how individuals are required to take responsibility for career management and how adaptation optimises employment opportunities
- Competence Insight Assess the skills required for future employment taking account of how lifelong learning is now seen as essential in this process and how maintaining a up-to-date professional portfolio strengthens one’s opportunities
