PROGRAMME Information
The Part-time Bachelor of Commerce is a four year degree programme in business education. A
Diploma in Business is awarded upon successful completion of the first two years. The programme is delivered via blended learning
which usually involves eight weekend workshops per year. Workshops take
place on Friday afternoons (2pm to 8:30pm) and all day Saturdays (9am to 5:30pm). Workshop times may vary, students will be notified of
any changes in advance. Contact time may vary from year to year. A
timetable will be provided at the beginning of each academic year.
Students receive a resource pack for each module, which contains the
core learning materials. Each resource pack is a guide through the
module and allows students to learn at times convenient to their own
schedule.
Students who do not wish to undertake the entire programme can choose
Occasional Commerce, whereby an applicant can pick any module(s) offered in a given year if they have passed or gained exemption from the prerequisite module(s). For example, an applicant who wishes to take Management Accounting (Year 2) must have passed or gained exemption from Accounting (Year 1). Contact the

In addition to the eight weekend workshops and resource packs, students can avail of online support from dedicated module tutors.
Blackboard, a web-based e-learning system, provides a forum for discussion between students and with tutors. E-mail and telephone support is also available. IT skills are not a prerequisite for entry to the programme. Blackboard and IT training will be provided at regular intervals throughout the programme.
An Introduction to Learning module, delivered during the first year of this programme, is designed to develop the time management, study and writing skills needed by students working towards third level qualifications. This will enable students to develop the skills needed to interact effectively in a blended learning environment.
The part-time B. Comm. is designed to provide a solid foundation in the key business disciplines. The programme will help students to gain the knowledge and skills to adapt to new business methods and contexts throughout their working life.
Recipients of the Diploma in Business will have a sound knowledge of the fundamentals of business and management. Graduates of the Degree programme will have a solid foundation in the key business disciplines.
The Diploma and Degree are aimed at mature students who may currently work in business or hope to in the future. Delivery by blended learning allows mature students, with work and/or family commitments, to study at times that suit their needs.
