PS6158 Sexual Consent Promotion: Skills and Practice
Sexual consent, sexual violence and harassment (SVH) are critical issues in educational settings.
This module equips participants to design and support student engagement and organisational development, through coverage of areas such as:
- Critical understanding of consent & SVH.
- Designing, implementing, supporting and evaluating consent & SVH programmes.
- Policy, guidelines, and frameworks.
- Principles of organisational culture change.
- Communication/interpersonal skills.
- Skills for facilitation, collaboration, and groups.
The module will enable participants to gain valuable skills relevant for designing and supporting programmes on consent, sexual violence and harassment. It is especially suitable for participants working with young adults and has particular relevance to third level educational settings. The modules is also relevant to other educational settings and youth work.
The module is provided by the Active Consent programme at NUI Galway, a leading research and implementation project on sexual consent. It draws on Active Consent student and staff educational and training resources, background research with second and third level students and staff in Ireland, and national guidelines.
The module caters to staff and professionals in training who are working in direct provision of relevant programmes or in support, leadership, or administrative roles related to such programmes. A personal statement is required to ensure the module will meet participant needs and background.
