Students admitted to the programme will normally hold a primary degree with Second Class Honours, Grade 1 or equivalent international qualification, which will have included the study of economics to intermediate level. Students who hold a Higher Diploma in Economics with Second Class Honours, Grade 1, or equivalent international qualification, may also apply.

This is an innovative programme for students interested in contributing to environmental policy and to sustainable longterm management of rural and urban resources. It aims to equip graduates with quantitative modelling skills to meet the diverse challenges of global climate change, sustainable development and environmental governance.
You will take courses in subjects such as Microeconomics, Urban and Rural Resource Governance, Data Management and Survey Techniques, Econometrics, Environmental Economics, Economic Modelling, and Cost Benefit Analysis and Evaluation.
In addition to coursework, students also complete a minor dissertation over a 3 month period. A number of internships in environmental, agricultural, energy or marine research institutes and/or development agencies, will also be offered. These will be competitive placements which will allow the student to apply the skills learned on the programme in a real-world environment.

Requirements and assessment
Environmental economics, development economics, or agricultural economics and graduates have gone on to do PhDs or have found employment in government departments, international environmental or development agencies, in land or coastal area-management, or in resource management generally.
As a sector it differs from other sectors given both the dependence upon natural resources and degree to which outcomes within the sectors depend upon regulation. Given the disciplines historic strengths in environmental economics and public economics, a focus on the economics of the natural resource sectors seems a natural fit."
