Will postgraduate courses run as planned in September 2022?

All universities are prepared for enrolment in September 2022 and this is what we are planning towards. If the Department of Education & Skills makes changes to proposed enrolment dates we will all have to adapt accordingly. Updates will be communicated to incoming students, and information will be posted here.

Are applications still being accepted?

Yes, applications for enrolment in 2021 are being accepted. now. There is no disruption to the application process as a result of COVID-19. Apply here.

Are the scholarship schemes still available?

Yes, the scholarship schemes are still available. There is no disruption to scholarship schemes as a result of COVID-19. Please note, that if you think you might be eligible for the NUI Galway €1,500 full time taught masters scholarship (for students who achieve a first class honours in their degree), then you need to remember that an application will be required for this. I am delayed or unable to secure the necessary documentation or obtain the necessary official stamps needed to support my application, due to COVID-19.

I cannot reach my referees; will you accept my application without a reference?

When will I get a decision on my current applications?

There is no disruption to the application review process as a result of COVID-19. Since applications can take at least four weeks to review, if you wish to receive a decision in an early round, you should apply early, and submit your application as complete as possible. In the case of research programmes, allow up to six weeks, from the date we receive your application, before you can expect such notification.

Are SUSI accepting grant applications as normal? 

Yes. SUSI opened to accept grant applications for academic year 2021/22 in April 2021. Visit the SUSI website for all details on the process. Application closing dates are 10 June 2021 for grant renewal applications and 8 July 2021 for new grant applications. 

Can I easily reach someone in NUI Galway (e.g., Programme Director) to find out information about my course (timetable, etc.)?

What format might my course take in September?

The format of your programme will be sent to you in more detail by your programme director nearer term-start-date. (Please continue to check this FAQs site often: further updates will be posted here.)

When will online registration open?

You will be emailed registration information in plenty of time, and updates will appear on the Registration Office website as well.

My course involves a placement aspect. How will this be handled?

The University is currently working on plans to handle postgraduate course placements/internships, etc., in light of COVID-19 restrictions. Information will be communicated to prospective students by their programme director in due course. 

I was planning to visit the NUI Galway campus but I am now unable to. Are there any alternatives?
