Software Distribution

What is the service?

Software license distribution is co-ordinated by Information Solutions and Services. Network license server hardware and maintenance and network license file administration is managed by Information Solutions and Services.

Installation Media (CD/DVD)
The  Service Desk in Information Solutions and Services holds software media for all standard (widely-used) software and distributes media to staff and students as appropriate under the software license terms and conditions. Details of software license availability are published online.
Specialist software media is not held in the Service Desk but is available to borrow on request from Information Solutions and Services as appropriate under the software license terms and conditions. To borrow specialist software media, please email your request to servicedesknuigalway.ie

Network license
A number of software licenses are distributed from network license servers. This allows the distribution of licenses to be managed and ensures that concurrent license limits are implemented. This license distribution method often restricts the use of that software to on-campus only although a small number of software licenses allow customers to borrow a license from the server for use off-campus for a limited time period. Network license distribution is a growing trend by software suppliers and it is expected that the majority of software licenses in the future will be managed by the network license servers.

Who can use this service?

All staff and registered students at NUI Galway can use this service. Restrictions apply in accordance with the software license terms and conditions.

• Standard software distribution available 09:15 – 17:00 (Monday – Friday) from the Service Desk
  
  
• Specialist software distribution available 09:15 – 17:00 (Monday – Friday) on request to servicedesknuigalway.ie 
  
  
• Technical support is available for software as appropriate to the terms of the license agreement. Details for each software license are published online.
  
  
• Network license distribution is available 24x7
