What is a Campus Account?

Campus Account credentials provide students access to all computing services. These services include: 

Office 365
Staff Desktops
PC Suites
Library Systems
Staff Intranet
Site Manager
IRIS - Institutional Research Information System

How do I get a Campus Account?

Staff can go online to CASS and activate their Campus Account using the following credentials:

What is my temporary activation password?

An activation password is a temporary password that is assigned to each staff member when their account is created. If you are unsure of your password please contact the Service Desk.

What happens if I enter the wrong password?

You are allowed three attempts to enter your password at If you enter your password incorrectly three times, your Campus Account will lock and the following message will appear on the CASS login screen:

If this happens, please contact the Library & I.T. Service Desk in order to unlock your Campus Account.

What is my Campus Account password?

When you activate your Campus account online at you are prompted to complete a number of activation questions and to choose your new Campus Account password. Once you have completed this process, your Campus Account and password are active immediately.

What are the requirements for a Campus Account password?

The Campus Account password:

  • Is case-sensitive
  • Has a minimum password length of eight characters
  • Has a maximum password length of 16 characters
  • Must be alpha numeric – consisting of at least one number and one letter
  • Can contain uppercase letters and lowercase letters
  • Can contain numbers
  • Can contain the following ASCII text characters: (’ ~ ! @# $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + - = { } | [ ] : " ; ' < > ? , . /)
  • Cannot contain any of the following items:
    • User ID
    • First name 
    • Surname
    • Answers to any of the self service questions created during activation or updated following activation
    • Spaces
  • Non-English characters

Note: If you change your Campus Account password, you are restricted from choosing a new password that is the same as any of your three most recent Campus Account passwords.

How do I change my Campus Account password?

  1. Go online to
  2. On the left-hand side of the screen click on My Account > Change Password
    Enter your current password
    Select a new password and re-enter the new password for confirmation
    Click Save

  3. Note: If you change your Campus Account password, you are restricted from choosing a new password that is the same as any of your three most recent Campus Account passwords.

Do I ever need to return to CASS after activating my Campus Account?

If you have already activated your Campus Account you can access all computing services using your Campus Account user ID and password. The only reasons to return to CASS are to either change your password or to retrieve your password if you forget it.

My temporary activation password has expired - what do I do?

When the temporary Activation Password expires, all account access is disabled. Go to CASS to activate your Campus Account. Your User ID and temporary Activation Password will continue to allow you to access CASS until your Campus Account is activated.

How do I change my password for my staff email?

Your staff email password is the same as your Campus Account CASS password. 

What is my email address?

In order to locate your email address, go to CASS ( and click on Set Language. Your NUI Galway student email address will be displayed here.
