Malware Infected Sites Being Blocked 
 

Q: What does this message mean?

A: This means that the website you are trying to access is deemed to be infected by Malware

Q: How is this Malware detected?

A: The college proxy service uses a 3rd party service provided by CISCO, which actively rates all internet sites. If a site has been found to be infected by Malware, the site receives a low score. The proxy service then stops you from visiting this site for your own protection

Q: Can the college remove this block?

A: No. It’s the responsibility of the web site owners to ensure that their site contains no harmful content

Q: How is the block removed?

A: CISCO will actively re-visit these sites on a regular to see if the site’s status has changed. Once the site has been deemed to be safe, it will receive a higher score and will then be accessible once more

Q: The site owners claim their site is not infected

A: The main web site may be clean, but sub-sections might now be. For example, the website:  http://www.acme.com/ is accessible, but the URL: http://www.acme.com/sales is blocked. This is because the rating system blocks only the unsafe parts of the site, not the whole site. Similarly, one server may host many websites, and only the infected sites will be blocked
