How to enable DHCP

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a network application protocol, which enables a device (computer/printer) to obtain an IP address allowing it to communicate on the network. Dynamic indicates that the IP address is temporary for the duration of a network connection and will change when a device is rebooted.

Instructions for Windows XP users

1. Click  Start, (then Settings) and then  Control Panel
   
2. Double-click  Network Connections
   (or click Network and Internet Connections and then click Network Connections)
    
   
   
3. Right-click on Local Area Connections and select Properties
    
   
   
4. A Local Area Connection Properties dialog box appears.
   
   Select Internet Protocol ( TCP/IP)
   Click Properties  
   
   
5. The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box appears.
    
   Click Obtain an IP address automatically and then click OK
   
   
6. Click  OK and then click Close at the Network Connections window
   
   
7. You can now restart your computer and it will receive an IP Address automatically.

Instructions for Macintosh OSX users

1. From the Apple Menu, select System Preferences
   
   
   
   
2. In the System Preferences window, click  Network
   
   
   
3. In the Network dialog, with Network selected, ensure that  Configure IPv4 is set to  Using DHCP
   
   
   
4. Click Apply Now
   
   
5. You can now restart your computer and it will receive an IP Address automatically.
