Configure Outlook 2010 for off-campus, for staff who have not been
migrated and are currently on Exchange 2003 Server
Prerequisites
- Windows 7, Windows XP
- Outlook 2010
- Internet connection
Steps to follow
- Close Outlook (if already open)
- Establish a connection to the Internet
- From the
Start menu, click
Control Panel and then open
Mail
- Under Profiles, click the
Show Profiles
- Click the
Add and
OK
- A New Profile dialog box appears. Type in the profile name
Outlook Remote and click
OK
- The first page of the email Accounts Wizard appears Add a new email account
Select
Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click
Next
- The second page of the eMail Accounts Wizard appears. Select the
Microsoft Exchange option, click
Next
- The third page of the eMail Accounts Wizard appears, enter
EVS1.ac.nuigalway.ie
The
Use Cached Exchange Mode box must be ticked. For User Name, type in
your staff ID number. The format for staff number is 7 digits followed by s (e.g. 0088888s shown below).

More Settings button
- A Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box appears. Ensure that the
When starting option is set to
Automatically detect connection state
- Click the
Connection tab to view the Connection settings. The
Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP box must be ticked
- Click the
Exchange Proxy Settings button. The Exchange Proxy Settings dialog box appears
Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange, type in
staffmail.nuigalway.ie
The
Connect using SSL only box must be ticked
The
On fast networks, connect to Exchange using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP box must be ticked
The
On slow networks, connect to Exchange using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP box must be ticked
The Proxy Authentication settings must be changed to
Basic Authentication
Click
OK
- At the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box (shown below), click
Apply and then click
OK
- Enter your password
- Click
OK
- At the eMail Accounts wizard dialog box, click
Next
Click
Finish
- Open Microsoft Outlook 2007. You will be prompted to choose a profile. Ensure that the Profile Name is
Outlook Remote and click
OK
- Outlook will setup a local copy of your mailbox. This may take several minutes, depending on the speed of your data connection to the Internet. When complete, you will see your Inbox and mail folders in Outlook
