Setting Up Level 1 Messaging 

Level 1 Messaging is used to differentiate between emails. So for example; you want to be notified right away when your boss emails you.   You can set any email from your boss to be marked as Level 1 and within the Profiles menu on your BlackBerry  set a different ring tone for Level 1 messages.

1. On your PC go to the BlackBerry Desktop Manager
   
   Click on Start > All Programs > BlackBerry > Desktop Manager
   
   
   
2. Click on Email Settings
   
   
   
3. Select the Filters tab and click on New
   
   
   
4. Enter your filter parameters e.g. you want to be notified when the Head of your Departments emails you.
   Filter Name:
   From:  Enter the Head of Departments email address or click on Import list to access the Global Address List
   Sent to: Enter your own email address here or click on Import list to access the Global Address List
   Select Forward message to the device
   Select Forward with Level 1 Notification
   Click on OK
    
   
5. To set the Level 1 alert on your BlackBerry
   
6. Hit the Menu Keyand using the Trackball, select Profiles
   
   
7. You will see that your current profile is automatically selected e.g. Normal (Active)
   
   
8. Using the TrackBall scroll down and select Advanced...
   
   
9. Hit the Menu Key and select Edit
   
   
10. Use the Trackball to select  Level 1 Messages  Your screen is divided into "Out of Holster" and "In Holster"
    
    Note:  Your BlackBerry can detect being placed in the holster by the magnetic strip on your holster case.
    
    
11. You can now set the Level 1 Messages ring tone and volume for Out of Holster and In Holster to what ever options you want.
    
    
12. Hit the return key and select Save to exit
