Message Alerts will not Delete from the BlackBerry Main Screen 

This issue may be caused by the following:
An unread message is stored in the saved messages list.
The date or time is incorrect on the BlackBerry device.
The Messages database is corrupt.
The BlackBerry device has an unopened voice mail message or a voice mail message has been saved without being listened to. The Messages application is hidden on the BlackBerry device Home screen.

Cause 1

An unread message is stored in the saved messages list. When an unread message is saved, a copy is saved to the saved messages list.  If the original unread message is deleted from the messages list, the unread message indicator will remain active until the unread message has been opened or deleted from the saved messages list.

Resolution 1

Display the saved messages list, and either open or delete the unread message.   Note: To display the saved messages list, display the menu in the messages list, then select View Saved Messages.

Cause 2

The date or time is incorrect on the BlackBerry device.

Resolution 2

Manually update the date and time on the BlackBerry device.

1. Navigate to Options > Date/Time.
2. Change the Date/Time Source field to one of the following options:
3. BlackBerry - Synchronizes the time with the Research In Motion® BlackBerry Infrastructure and not the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
4. Network - Synchronizes the time with your service provider's network time.
5. Off - Does not synchronize the date or time.

Cause 3

The Messages database is corrupt.

Resolution 3

Warning: Be sure to back up data on the BlackBerry device before clearing any database. Information will be permanently lost otherwise.

1. Connect the BlackBerry device to the computer.
2. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
3. Double-click Backup and Restore, then click Advanced.
4. From the list of Device Databases, select the appropriate database.  For Email Messages, select Messages.
5. Click Clear.
6. In the Warning window, click OK.
7. Send a new message to the BlackBerry device. New messages now appear in the Messages screen.

Cause 4

The BlackBerry device has an unopened voice mail message or a voice mail message has been saved without being listened to.

Resolution 4

Listen to or delete unheard voice mail messages on the BlackBerry device.

Cause 5

The Messages icon is hidden on the BlackBerry device Home screen.

Resolution 5

Display the Messages application. For instructions, see the user guide for your BlackBerry device.
