Android/Smartphone - PDA's

You should purchase the handheld device that best meets your requirements but please keep in mind that Information Solutions and Services can supply and support only devices on the University e-Government Contract CON226 and O2.

Students are advised that Information Solutions and Services do not provide support for personally-owned computer equipment. 

Staff users are advised that Information Solutions and Services can provide only limited, advisory support for Smartphone/Android - PDA's, as such devices are outside of the NUI Galway IT Equipment Procurement Contract CON111.

There are no restrictions on Personal digital assistant (PDA), Android/ Smartphones accessing the NUIGWiFi network on-campus.

Accessing eMail

Android/Smartphone, PDA users with Internet access can access their StaffMail or StudentMail account on the device using a web browser.

StudentMail users with a Windows Mobile or ActiveSync device can also synchronize their Android/Smartphone - PDA with one StudentMail mailbox.

eMail Setup for Staff

StaffMail users may be able to setup synchronisation of email and calendar on their Android/Smartphone - PDA if the device allows synchronisation with a Microsoft Exchange server. Prior to purchasing, it is recommended that you confirm with your mobile provider that the device can be configured for Microsoft Exchange. Remember to determine the data charges for this service.

eMail - Add Account:	Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
eMail Address	e.g. firstname.surnamenuigalway.ie
Server:	StaffMail (Academic users) enter staffmail.nuigalway.ie Administrative staff eMail (MIS Mail), enter mismail.mis.nuigalway.ie  Exchange 2010 users enter mail.nuigalway.ie
SSL:	Ensure that the box for Use secure connection (SSL) is checked
Username:	Staff ID number e.g. 0012345s
Password:	your email password
Domain:	StaffMail (Academic users) enter acdomain Administrative staff eMail (MIS Mail), enter misdomain
SMTP ingoing and outgoing:	StaffMail (Academic users) enter staffmail.nuigalway.ie Administrative staff eMail (MIS Mail), enter mismail.mis.nuigalway.ie  Exchange 2010 users enter mail.nuigalway.ie

Note: Your Android/Smartphone will not synchronise fully if you have sub folders within your Inbox folder.
