O2 in conjunction with
HEAnet are making a mobile broadband solution based on 3G USB modem technology available to students and staff at preferential pricing. A once off modem payment of €19.99 and a monthly fee of €9.95 (12 month/10GB contract) or €12.93 a month (9 month/5GB contract) applies.
Staff and students can purchase from any O2 branch. To avail of this offer you will need: Photo ID in the form of a valid 10/11 NUIG student or staff card; proof of address in the form of a utility bill or letter from the CAO; bank details or credit/laser card for direct debit payment; and proof of date of birth.
A USB modem will let you connect your computer over the high-speed 3G broadband mobile network, so you can browse the web and send and receive email. It is connected to the computer via USB which makes the product usable with any computer.
3G Broadband is another name for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA). This allows up to four times faster data speeds then 3G and should make downloading data and browsing the web even faster.
Smaller than a mobile phone, the O2 Hotshot allows you to create a mobile wi-fi zone wherever you go and can connect up to 5 devices to the internet at once The new Hotshot device is now available to staff and students, and is only €29 until next Monday 28th February 2011
